Ben Ramsey
Principal Psychologist
Ben has been working in the mental health field since 2005, which is when he established New Life Psychology Services (formerly New Life Counselling & Training). In that time period he has accumulated many thousands of hours of therapeutic work with people. Originally completing an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy, Ben went on to complete a Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling, before commencing the (long) journey towards being a registered psychologist.
Ben completed his psychology training through the Department for Education and Child Development, and worked as a psychologist with them for 4 years. This role involved work such as completing assessments with children from kindergarten – high school (IQ, achievement, behavioural), working with staff and parents in differentiating curriculum, developing behaviour plans etc. He also maintained working privately doing counselling/therapy intervention. He has worked with people on a range of issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, anger, relationships, parenting, self esteem, assertiveness, addictions, eating disorders and others.
Ben has a desire to help people uncover the root cause of their difficulty, and not just treat the presenting symptom.
Ben has accumulated a breadth of experience since 2005, including having stints at the Mental Health Unit in Mount Gambier and Millicent, Glenside psychiatric facility (Adelaide), presenting numerous seminars, being a Division of General Practice mental heath practitioner, EAP provider to both small local businesses as well as large corporate organisations, a WorkCover approved provider, NDIS provider, and working as a psychologist within the public education system in South Australia.
Prior to this Ben was a teacher, primarily high school initially teaching instrumental and classroom music, then later as a coordinator of career counselling and vocational learning. His teaching experience also spanned primary schools as well as special education. Ben has experience in other employment areas through part time work (eons ago, through uni days), including small independent supermarkets, large national supermarkets, and factories (paint brush manufacturing).
This range of experiences has helped Ben to relate to a broad cross-section of our community, and he is able to provide services to people at a level they are able to grasp, understand and utilise.
